You’ll need to drive 45 minutes from Morganton to reach the Linville Gorge Wilderness Area, but the trip is worth it! This is another place that makes for a great day trip from the city and while you’re there, you’ll enjoy beautiful trails, spectacular views and must-see attractions including Linville Falls.
This North Carolina waterfall can be accessed in two ways. The first way to get to the falls is via the Erwin View Trail which is less than two miles return. The second way is via the Plunge Basin Trail, also less than two miles long.
This wilderness area is part of the Pisgah National Forest and has received protected status, so you’ll enjoy a pristine environment that’s about as untouched as you can get in the region.
